My Favourite picks of April 

Favourites time again and I've managed to accumulate lots of bits and bobs to talk about.
April has been a really good month for me, I've had a well needed week off, which was really nice, I got to catch up with lots of friends, I took a trip to Birmingham to the Bullring which was great and spent some time at home relaxing and giving the place a bit of a much needed spring clean! So feeling fresh and chirpy (must be the chocolate eggs) here are a few other things that have made this month a good'un...

Beauty:
Starting off with an old favourite of mine,
Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation. I absolutely love this it is hands down my all time favourite high street foundation, in fact I'm pretty sure that over the years I must have purchased around 5-6 bottles of this stuff! I particularly enjoy using this during the Spring/Summer months as it gives a fresh dewy healthy ( as the name would suggest) finish and its very affordable.

Kevyn Aucoin- The Sensual Skin Enhancer, I have been eyeing up this little beaut for what seems to be a lifetime and being exclusive to Spacenk it hasn't been the easiest to track down, however when I was in Birmingham I sniffed it out and treated myself to a tub. I don't want to give too much away as I'm going to be doing a blog post on this very soon but its obviously in my favourites for a reason and lets just say the name of this product COULD NOT be closer to the truth! Ohhh Kevyn *kisses tub*

Hair:
Charles Worthington- Volume and Bounce Shampoo & Conditioner, again not going to repeat myself as I have already done a blog post on these (which you can read here) but this volumising duo work lovely together to provide clean, soft hair with a little grit to work as the perfect base for styling and adding lots of texture and volume to your look.

Bath & Body:
The Body Shop Shower Gels, last month I picked two of The Body Shop showers gels up as a bit of an impulse buy (they were on offer and smelt amazing!) and about four weeks later I am slowly becoming close to end of one of them. A slight never- before- panic over shower gels took place and I instantly had to re-purchase, so I grabbed two more to keep in my stocks one being Olive and the other Coconut. There is just something about these gels that really excites me (I know I need to get out more!)  but every time I use them not only my bathroom fills up with their fragrance but my whole apartment! The smell lingers on my skin and they are just so refreshing- they are sooo good that me and my boyfriend had a full on discussion for a couple of minutes about which ones to purchase next! One extra note, they always seem to be on offer as well!

Palmer's Coco Butter Formula Moisturiser, time to go old school now, this moisturiser has been in my life for as long as I can remember, its like a very good friend, it leaves for a few years, then returns and you just pick up where you left off. If you haven't heard of this product then it is a very enriched coco butter moisturiser that softens, smoothes and relieves dry skin and I love it! This product is near enough pure coco butter and smells incredible, in fact I once applied this before bed and well into my shift at work the next day someone recognised the scent. Its very thick and non-greasy and like applying this during the hotter months as it just reminds me of Summer and its very nostalgic. Do you have any products like this??

Skincare:

The Body Shop - Camomile Eye Make-up Remover this product actually makes taking stubborn mascara off a pleasure. I usually skip this step and let my cleanser do all the work for me especially as I usually find make up removers quite harsh on my eyes as they are particularly sensitive but this is lovely, very soothing and gentle and does the job with only a few drops.

Non-Beauty:

Game of Thrones, so this month we have seen the return of Game of Thrones and what a way to kick things off?! For those of you who don't follow this television series- why the hell not?! I always find that whenever I talk about this programme people seem on edge and a bit nervous in case I give any spoilers, but fear not, I'll be kind, moving on swiftly...  
Marks&Spencer's Toffee, Fudge and Belgian Chocolate Hot Cross Buns, yes this really is a thing! Its not Easter until you've shoved one (or maybe four) of these bad boys down ya'. They taste as good as they sound! Need I say any more? *Starts dribbling*
Marks&Spencer's Juice Drinks, since purchasing my juicer in February I always try to create tasty and healthy drinks but sometimes when you work full time its difficult to find space in your day to get your 'juice on' and that's when you need M&S's juices. I went a bit wild and grabbed three big bottles (they were on offer- 3 for £5) and they taste fantastic! I got

1.  Pineapple, Mango, Coconut Water & Lime 
2. Apple, Asparagus and Lemon
3. Orange and Carrot

They provide 2 of your 5 a day and make you feel better about forgetting to juice!

George @ Home- exclusively to ASDA, and lastly, during this month I decided to give my apartment a little spring update and celebrated the fact that I have been living here for almost a year by buying the place a few anniversary pressies. I won't go into detail as I have done a home haul post about all the bits and pieces I picked up. What I will say though is that I was very impressed with ASDA's latest home ware offering and you can click here to find out more!

First Impressions: Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation

Today I'm focussing on the Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation,which I purchased about a week ago now and wanted to share with you my thoughts...
The Product- This  foundation from Giorgio Armani has been at the top of my mental wish list for quite some time. To me, this foundation claims to have all the elements I would personally look for in a make up base, it claims to be of a silky smooth lightweight texture with a seamless natural finish- which defiantly ticks all my boxes. The foundation contains no SPF, which is great to wear on a night out to avoid any flash back, and is packaged in a very sophisticated glass bottle with a pump- always a plus! I believe this high end foundation retails for around £34.50,with a very impressive shade range.
So with all that being said lets weigh up the pro's + con's.

Pro's 

• It has a lightweight formula, which does blend seamlessly into the skin- I personally found it best to apply using a buffing brush for the most effective results.
• It does what it says on the bottle and give a silky-smooth finish- airbrushing any blemishes or uneven skin tone along the way. 
• Does give a really pretty luminous glow, which doesn't appear greasy or look unflattering 
• It comes with pump, which I much prefer and considering the price you would expect it to.
• Large shade range which is very accurate, I would say my shade (4) is perfect.
• I can see this product being suitable for all skin types. 

Con's

• Availability- Giorgio Armani is tricky to track down and with any high end foundations its always worth getting colour tested before you purchase in store. 
• Its medium coverage- which may not be for everyone and possibly slightly deceiving considering it claims to be a light weight foundation.
• I wasn't too impressed with the lasting power of the foundation, I found that after 1-2 hours (considering what I was doing) I did need to touch up, so it may be worth applying a primer beforehand or using a powder to set the product in place.  
• Price- for 30ml at £34.50 a pop... Ouch!  

Verdict- Its funny, the very first time I applied this I sat back and waited for something almost magical to happen, for my skin to just transform- it didn't, but what it did do was almost improved each time I applied it. The results tend to look better than the last and I have grown to really love it. I think when a product is hyped up soooo much and claims to be gods actual gift you do naturally expect something out of this world, even if its staring at you right in the face. This foundation does tick all my boxes and is a joy to apply, it does create a silky smooth thin layer but performs to a medium coverage, my only worry is the lasting power but I supose there have to be something to moan about!

Charles Worthington- Volume & Bounce Range

Today I have decided to talk about something which I have forever longed for  (no, not Johnny Depp) but bouncy, thick and full looking hair- I'm really not asking for much am I? But the lengths I go to get this look you really would think I was looking Mr. Depp.
Now my hair is rather thin but I have a LOT of it which makes it do that annoying limp- lost the will to live type look, that I can only restore by furiously back combing the heck out of it, that to my hair dressers dismay really isn't doing me any favours, you know the symptoms of the back combing virus- split ends, weakness, brittle and just general bad conditioned hair. So with this diagnosis I headed to Boots to see if they could offer me an alternatives to the comb and that's when I stumbled across the Charles Worthington Volume and Bounce Range- a collection of hair products which I have heard a lot about ( especially the texturising spray- you know the one, the apparent Oribe dupe.) With the 3 for 2 offer on (bloody love that offer) I went to town and picked up the shampoo and conditioner plus two other styling products...
Just a quick note, Charles Worthington is the official hair stylists for The EE British Academy Awards for the past SIX YEARS! With that being said I instantly had high hopes!
Shampoo & Conditioner

First of all smells very sweet- like parma violets which is obviously a good thing, and this scent runs consistent throughout the whole range and is incredibly long lasting.The duo both contains collagen and intends to give a  fuller look and abundant body to the roots. I enjoyed the shampoo, it foamed up a treat and paired with the conditioner didn't leave my hair dry or tanglely which is usually the result after I use volumising shampoo & conditioners. In fact these left my hair feeling soft, clean and light and bouncy, with some added grit to be the perfect base for styling.
Thick & Full 3D Boosting Crème

This product was the less impressive out of the bunch, the formula of the crème was fine, felt very light on the hair, wasn't greasy, but it just didn't seem to live up to the "3D" root boosting claims. I applied it roughly to my roots and ran the product through the length whilst still slightly damp. When I finished blow-drying, cant really say that it shows any impact at all. 

Texturising Spray

And finally on to the product I was most excited about trying out, the texturising spray. I am very faithful to my beloved Batiste dry shampoo- (we bonded during many Reading Festivals) having said that I am still willing to try out others. I sprayed generously to the roots and massaged it in, it didn't leave any residue and seemed to have slightly more hold than the Batiste spray ( I think it may have hair spray built in) It added body to my hair and didn't dry it out or leave it looking wet. I cant really complain if I'm honest, but again the effects didn't last as long as I would of hoped and within a matter of minutes ( we will say around 10) I grabbed my comb... (slaps wrist!) I think I will enjoy using the remainder of the spray for now but once its used up, back on to my trusty dry shampoo for the thickness I need.
Overall a nice range, a lovely shampoo and conditioner duo, and the spray is something to try but not for me. Back to the back combing for me I think. If you have any great products that you would recommend for added texture and volume into your hair please let me know- maybe I'm just a hard critic to please in this category?!

Home Haul

Today I thought I would share with you a few things I've bought for my home! If I'm honest its not really like me to go out shopping on the sole purpose of buying lots of home ware items, I tend to buy pieces as and when something catches my eye, however recently I've had the urge to freshen things up a little and give the place a bit of an updated spring shake up!
The first place I visited was George Home- exclusively at ASDA, I stumbled across their new  spring/summer home collection a few weeks ago whilst doing my weekly shop and haven't been able to put their catalogue down since. I headed straight for the bedding as they have some really beautiful prints, I picked up a duvet set that had little vintage inspired birds on which I paired with a thick yellow and grey knitted throw and some cushions which tied the look together nicely. When it comes to the bedroom I like quite a neutral theme and have settled on olive greens and light grey tones. For me comfort is key and I love building up lots of textures and layer with throws, blankets and cushions, in fact I have so many now I'm running out of places I can put them!

 Whilst in George I found some really pretty, almost Cath Kidson inspired kitchen ware and picked up a medium sized flora tray which I decided to use to sit my oh so important coffee making facilities on!

Overall I was very impressed with ASDA's offering, very stylish and very affordable. Next I headed to
The Range which is a large store that homes almost everything you could possibly think of! This was when things got a teeny bit out of control, again some really great finds and a reasonable price! I got a few things for my en-suite bathroom which has been needing some TLC to say the least. I went for a seaside theme to enhance the blue and white tiles. I wanted some wicker baskets to place fresh towels in and one to store some of my skin care products in. I couldn't resist the wooden starfish that I laid across the window sill and some hanging hooks with beech-huts printed on (sticking to the brief of course!)

The last few pieces I got were some more baskets in different sizes, I personally think that baskets are a great storage solution  and a heart garland that I have hung above my front door, I just cant resist hearts, they are everywhere in my home! So that's the lot, I had a lot of fun finding a place for my purchases this afternoon, it defiantly feels more refreshed  with a hint of spring sprinkled into the mix (even if it is pouring it down outside!) I always think a clear space creates a clear mind and every now and again attention to detail is nice to help create your own little space.

First Impressions: Maybelline 24HR Colour Tattto Eye Shadows

For a while now these little beauties have been on the blogger radar as the go to affordable eye shadow that creates a shimmery, iridescent glaze across the lids of the eyes, something which defiantly tickles my fancy. I'm always on the look out for an easy going, no fuss easy to blend eye shadow which I can rely to stay put throughout the day, because lets face it, who really has time to be faffing about blending and what not first thing in the morning?
I have read numerous blogs and articles focussing on these shadows and having studied the very appealing colour range on the shelf, I caved in and picked a couple up to find out what all the fuss really is about.
The Product-  This release from Maybelline has been on the market for some time (better late than never to review it!) and since its launch a number of dupes and similar products have followed from other competitors (Bourjois Colour Edition 24hr eye shadows, LOreal Infalliable eyeshadows, to name a few.) The gel cream formulation supposedly glides on and doesn't crease, the product also claims to have long-lasting results (24hours!!) due to its "ink pigment technology." The colour range varies from shimmery metallic shades to smooth bold metallic shades with a good mix of neutral and vibrate colours. I picked up "On and On Bronze" which is a golden shimmery bronze shade and "Pink Gold".

 

 

 

Pro's

• I really liked the formulation, it was easy to blend either using your finger or make up brush.
• Liked the colour range, good mix of shades that were easy to wear and versatile.
• Does have great lasting power, I applied this before work at 8 in the morning and when I got home at 7 it hadn't budged.
• This product works as a good base colour or blended out on its own.

Con's

• The colour for both wasn't as pigmented as expected, its a buildable colour, that when applied a lot of does tend to sit quite heavy and thick on the eyes.
• The glass packaging may not be ideal for travelling and for on the go.
• If you suffer from oily skin this may be one to test first before purchasing due to its texture, I found it to crease a little bit and occasionally smudge.

Verdict- Overall I do really like these they are easy to use, great for blending and creating lots of different looks especially with the colour range and most importantly they stay on. For the price these retail at (£4.99) you really cant complain and for the quality you get I would expect to pay out a lot more, in fact I may take a trip to Boots very soon and pick up a couple more! For me, the hype is real and if you haven't tried these yet I would recommend you do and at the moment all beauty products are 3 for 2 in Boots- what's stopping you?!

My Top 5 Affordable Lip Products for Spring!

 

Today I thought I'd share with you my top 5 affordable lip products for Spring!

 

I've rummaged through my make up bag and picked out five of my favourite high street lipsticks which I think are perfect for Spring/Summer. I'm defiantly more of a natural- subtle lip stick wearer and enjoy wearing colours of the peachy-pink variety- especially during Spring time, so here are my picks! 

 

1/ TopShop- Whimsical ; this is a new purchase of mine and decided to pick it up after hearing so much about it and I'm very glad I did. This is a beautiful peachy pink colour and has rocketed to the top of my favourites' list! It's long lasting and applies quite opaque and thick, it does have a tendency to be a little drying so I always make sure my lips are nice and moisturised before applying. With one swipe of this across your lips and your good to go.

 

2/ Rimmel Moisture Renew- Let's Get Naked; these lipsticks are a renewed formulation and its safe it say they are very true to their name, super moisturising and surprising very pigmented. I like them because they feel very light on the lips and hydrating they also contain an SPF 20 which is great for spring time. I've got a few of these but my favourite shade is "Let's Get Naked" its such a neutral, almost nude colour that has pink undertones that just gives a "your lips but better" look.

 



3/ Revlon ColourBurst Lip Butter- Sugar Frosting; I'm in love with this range from Revlon, they are near enough my ideal everyday lip sticks, very moisturising and  nourishing, they are easy to wear and feel very lightweight. The only thing I would say is that they are very sheer, this colour especially, even getting a swatch of the colour was difficult but they do translate nicely onto the lips and give more of a tinted lip-balm effect. 

4/ Maybelline Colour Sensational- Tantalising Taupe Being fair skinned with blond hair I struggle to find the perfect nude that doesn't drown me of any colour. This colour is flattering and looks natural and subtle especially paired with a slight tan, it dries to a pigmented matte finish and has great lasting power. I think its part of the  limited edition range for the colour sensational collection, along with several other nude shades, defiantly worth checking out.



5/ Bourjois Colour Boost- Peach on the Beach First of all the award for cutest name goes to...
These Colour Boost crayons are simply awesome and a lot of fun! I really like the idea of the crayon designs, reminds me a lot of the "Clinique chubby sticks" and the formulation of these are beautiful as well. They are bursting with colour, and applies fairly glossy but non-sticky, hydrating and I believe they are waterproof as well! Bonus! The colour range in these are great, vibrant, fun and very spring inspired.
So there they are, my top 5 affordable lip products for this season, all sourced from the High Street and have my seal of approval! Do you have any particular lip products you like to wear for spring?

This is a little project I've been doing over on Instagram for the past couple of days. I've seen this hash tag pop up occasionally on my feeds and thought I would join in. The aim of the game is to take a photo (preferably everyday) of something that has made you happy. I thought this was a great idea to encourage positivity and to make an extra effort to look for positive, funny and the good things in life which sometimes we all oversee.
I've just approached my 20th day (round of applause) and thought I would share with you my 20 days of happiness :)

Day 1- the first day of happiness and I kicked things off with a very brave scale shot! This made me happy because since February I aimed to eat healthy and exercise regularly and as a result lost 8lbs!
Day 2- This was the image I used for my first ever blog post "Lovely Evening in Letchlade" which documents a perfect dinner in a cosy pub by the river.
Day3- This photo was taken on Tuesday and in other words in our house hold "wrestling" night! It may come as a surprise that I'm a huge WWE fan and every Tuesday we order a take out and slump in front of the TV catching up on our favourite show.
Day 4- Crème Egg Ice-Cream, need to say anymore?

 

 

Day 5- This shows a few cheeky purchases from Lush & The Body Shop, I love visiting these shops they instantly make me happy and managed to pick up a few bargains along the way! (see my previous blog post on this)
Day 6-  This is my good friend "McKinley" and this was taken at the pub on his short break back from the army. We only had him stay for a night but it was great to see him and catch up.
Day 7- "House work done- (except man cave, I don't dare go in there!) laundry done now for the Sunday afternoon workout followed by some yoga, perfecto!"
Day 8- Nothing beats a good ol' fry up! Possibly not your traditional English breakfast but these are all my favourite bits!

 

Day 9- Emma Hardie Amazing Face Cleansing Balm, never did such cleansing balms bring me so much happiness .
Day 10- Me and my Mummy! On this day we did what we do best, went out and did some shopping and visited one of my favourite little antique shops.
Day 11- Movie night. There just doesn't seem to be enough hours in day, especially in the evenings, however me and my boyfriend Mike settled down on the sofa and watched a movie ( I believe Repo Men was on the agenda) and of course no movie night is complete without a bottle of wine, Haribo and Jude Law...
Day 12- Mothers Day, although this is a photo that wasn't taken on Mothers Day I still spent the day with my mum and I love this picture. Being with me mum always brings me happiness, I just feel content, safe, warm and 100% myself, I sense a lot of snaps of us together on my 100 happy days journey!

 

Day 13- This was taken on a Monday which is me and Mikes day off together, we chose to drive down to Western-Super-Mare (the place of so many childhood memories.) It was a great day and the sun decided to stay out for us as well! (see previous blog post to find out more about this day)
Day 14- Have you guessed yet? Tuesday night- take out night! We opted for an Indian!
Day 15- As an attempt to re-boot my healthy eating regime I knocked up chicken breasts and some greens- cant say it came close to the Indian meal the previous night though!
Day 16- Wow, this really is the week of food! You can tell food makes me very happy indeed! On this day I wasn't really up to scratch and spent the night over the rents. After a home cooked meal from my mum (may I add out done both the Indian and the chicken dish!) I was surprised by my mum with a double chocolate cake topped with cream! So very happy! -- my healthy eating didn't last long did it? FAIL! But it did make me feel lots better!  

Day 17- Sorry another wrestling post! This was a screen shot of Wrestlemania which is one of the biggest wrestling events of the year.
Day 18- Just a snap of some very lovely flowers which sit on my kitchen table. I adore flowers and always try to make sure I have some in my apartment at all times! My mum got me a beautiful bouquet of tulips and roses at the start of the month so I thought it would look very cute by placing a few in a milk bottle! They made me happy returning home from a stressful day at work!
Day 19- Bath time! I broke off a few of my carrot bubble bars from Lush and lit a candle, I always enjoy a good soak to clear all thoughts. I picked up the latest Look magazine, solely for the fact that it had Cara Delevingne on the cover, so technically you could say I shared a bath with Cara? Pah I wish!
Day 20- So now up to the present day and today I treated myself to a little gift and something which I've had my eye on for a very long time... Topshop's lipstick in Whimsical. It gorgeous and I'm very happy I came to my senses and bought it!
So that's it for now, all of my 20 days of happiness. I'm thinking of doing an update post every 20 days so you can read up on all things lovely and positive! I've really enjoyed doing this little hash tag-project it really encourages me to think about my day differently and instead of thinking about the negatives (which I think we all are prone to do from time to time) but to think of the positives, how little and silly they may seem!

Why's Dr.Bronner's Magic Soap, Magic?

I first heard about Dr. Bronner's Magic Soap a few years ago and thought it sounded like the perfect multi-purpose household product. It wasn't, however until a recent trip to TK-MAXX whilst browsing through the cosmetic and hair care section that I spotted the distinct packaging and without a second thought I grabbed the only bottle left and ran for the counter. When I returned home I was memorised by the busy label and studied the ingredients of organic oils, one thing I couldn't see was all eighteen uses for just one single bottle and soap, so with the curiosity at peak I headed to the good 'ol interwebs to find out more!  
What is it?  I picked up the Dr. Bronner's 18-in-1 Hemp Peppermint Pure-Castile Soap. There are actually eight different scents in the range but hemp peppermint being the most popular. All these soaps come in either a liquid or solid formulation and are made with organic oils and Fair Trade ingredients such as, coconut oil, olive oil, peppermint oil and jojoba oil- to name a few! This ecological soap is well-known for its intricate labelling which state quotes, referencing and reflects Dr. Bronner's own philosophy on life. (a good read when relaxing in the tub)
The 18 Different Uses- So I thought it would be useful to include all eighteen uses which I have found and list them below, I have also noted alongside the ones which I have tried and tested...

1. Body Wash- you only have to smell this product to know it will be a fantastic shower gel, the bottle is bursting with a fresh peppermint tang which lavers up and leaves skin feeling clean and tingly
2. Shampoo- as this soap is enriched with multiple natural oils the shampoo left my hair feeling cleaned and soft and looking smooth
3. Bath Oil
4. Shaving- this soap has a great formulation and froths up to be the perfect shaving gel
5. Medical Purposes- clear congestion
6. Foot Bath
7. Toothpaste
8. Laundry
9. Washing your Dog
10. Cleaning the Dishes
11. Cleaning House Hold Appliances- I have tried this, I cleaned the inside of my microwave and it did help remove any dried food debris, a good natural detergent  
12. Mopping
13. Rinsing Fruit
14. Rinsing Veg
15. Aromatherapy
16. Cleaning Toilets
17. Cleaning Showers & Baths
18. Plant Spray for Bugs

If there was one word to describe this soap it would defiantly be.... Handy! But I guess "magic" cuts it as well! Its worth having a bottle or two of these guys floating around because you never know when your short one month (of one of the above) and this soap can swoon in and save the day. For the price it is and all the uses it holds it really is worth purchasing and keeping in your stocks!

First Impressions: Vita Liberata

The Perfect Tan?

 

I need to get a few things out in the open here... I am a TAN VIRGIN! Well not completely, I have dabbled with the odd Fake Bake here and there but to be honest I have always found fake tan a little intimidating compared to my pale complexion- BUT Vita Liberata is one I have chosen to experiment with & proudly call my first! And here's why...

 

 

The Product- if you're into tanning then you may have heard about this and have already tried it out as there are a lot of hype around this brand and I have already read a handful of positive reviews and blogs about it. My recommendation however actually came from my mum who, when it comes to tanning is  a tough critic to please so when she sung the praises for this tanning product I knew it was defiantly worth stealing off her!
The product is a moose base tanner which comes in three shades, light, medium and dark and retails for £37.50. The product claims to have no scent and no streaking and is packaged in a sleek 125ml bottle with a pump applicator.

 

 Pro's

• The moose is easy to blend over the body
• Its fast drying and has a buildable coverage to gain the exact colour you need if its too light after the first application.
• It leaves the skin with a natural tan.
• There's absolutely no transfer onto clothing or bedding ( which I put to the test wearing a white shirt to bed immediately after applying the tan)
• A little goes a long way which is reassuring considering the steep price tag.
• Lasting power- I've had this tan on now for just over a week and it still hasn't budged- AT ALL.

Con's

• Does give off a faint scent its not unpleasant but is detectable for the first few hours.
• Price- creeping towards the £40 mark, a bit too over what I would like to pay for a fake tan, however for the quality you get, sometimes its worth spending a bit more.

Verdict- its clear to say that Vita Liberata has restored my faith in fake tanning. The pro's outstandingly outweigh the con's. Its easy to use, gives a beautiful finish and has the lasting power that far exceeds the average. Its been a pleasure to apply even for a tan virgin and I can confirm its true love!
